Module 03 · 20 min
Preparing a questionnaire
A good questionnaire covers how people do the job today, where they get stuck, and what they wish existed. How you ask matters as much as what you ask.
What the questionnaire should cover
Build questions around three themes before you worry about fancy wording.
- Process — how are people doing this job currently?
- Pain points — what gets in the way?
- Wishlist — what do they want that they do not have yet?
Asking better questions
Avoid leading questions that push someone toward your preferred answer. Avoid binary yes/no when you need the real story — ask which difficulties they face, not only whether they face any.
Example questions for a shopping app
For a practice app like Bazaar, split questions into persona details, process, pain, and wishlist.
- Persona — name, age group, gender, education, hobbies, brands they use, location, income, how tech-savvy they are, devices, and one line about themselves.
- Process — which app do you use to buy household products? Which payment method do you prefer?
- Pain — which difficulties or limits do you face while buying products online?
- Wishlist — which household products would you like to buy online? Which functions or facilities would you want in this app?
